Are You Counting on Social Security?

If you expect a Social Security benefit - through other employment or a spouse - to supplement your CalSTRS benefit, two Social Security provisions may apply to you. These provisions are the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO).

Either provision could leave you with a lower Social Security benefit than you expect, or no Social Security benefit at all.
