Funding Levels

CalSTRS is currently funded at 69 percent. CalSTRS Defined Benefit contributions are among the lowest in the United States.

The state of California now pays half of what it paid in 1991 into the teachers’ retirement fund. Teachers have contributed a steady 8 percent since 1972. School districts have contributed 8.25 percent since 1990.
