What’s Your Responsibility?

As a CalSTRS member, you carry certain responsibilities to prepare for your retirement:

  • Register for myCalSTRS
  • Manage your accounts and check your account balances.
    • Check your pay stub to review salary information and your CalSTRS deductions.
    • Review and retain your annual CalSTRS Retirement Progress Report.
  • Inform CalSTRS and your employer if your name or contact information changes.
    • Call, click or write to update CalSTRS of a name change or change in your contact information (i.e., your preferred phone, mailing address(es), email, etc.).
  • Name a beneficiary.
  • Learn about the value of your CalSTRS benefits.
  • Know the value of and the choices for supplemental savings, including 403(b) and 457 accounts, and Individual Retirement Accounts.
  • Develop retirement goals and a plan to get there.
