Understand the Cost of Waiting

CalSTRS has assets to pay benefits through 2045. After that time, the State of California will have to pay the difference between the amount of money collected from contributions and the amount paid in benefits.

Gradual and predictable increases in contribution rates are part of the solution to CalSTRS unfunded actuarial obligation (UAO).
